Meet Our Farmers

Matthew and Courtney Howell:

Matthew and Courtney Howell, and their four children, raise goats and poultry on Howell Ridge Farm. The farm is only 15 acres now, but they have plans to quadruple its size and add cattle to their operation. The family loves farming together and it is a joy to see them all out taking care of farm chores together.

Harvey Young:

Harvey Young operates Charter Oaks Farm, where he raises cattle and poultry on more than 200 acres of rolling hills. Harvey retired from a career with AT&T to pursue his lifelong dream of farming. His is very committed to regenerative agriculture and soil health. He has been profiled as a Soil Health Hero and he has been awarded the Soil Conservationist of the Year in his district. The photo is of Harvey and his two livestock guardian dogs.

Gary and Miranda Rogers:

Gary and Miranda Rogers are the father-daughter team raising Katadin hair sheep on their Family Century Farm. Miranda is also a devoted horsewoman, competing in hunter/jumping events and also providing equine therapy for young people with special needs. Gary holds a PhD in agricultural and works for a global agricultural products company.

Alex Miller:

Alex Miller is the patriarch at Lick Skillet Farm. This Century Family Farm, one of several in our network, produces beef, pork, and poultry. Alex is a former Tennessee Cattlemen of the Year, and the farm’s commitment to regenerative agriculture was recognized by receiving The Governor’s Award for Environmental Stewardship. The photo is of Alex surrounded by his family and Mo, his cattle dog.

Mary Kilgore:

Mary Kilgore, along with her husband and sons, have a small family farm in Tennessee mountains.  They grow vegetables as well as raising other livestock, but her primary focus is providing the highest quality meat rabbits.

Grace Tanner:

After retiring from almost 15 years working for small animal veterinarians, Gracie continued her passion for raising livestock and began raising rabbits for homestead purposes.

Another motivating factor was that her four were allergic to chicken, so rabbit provided a good alternative. Additionally, her livestock guardian dogs also enjoy eating a partial BARF (bones and raw food) diet, with rabbit being a staple for them. Gracie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our network.

Maggie and Steven Snyder:

Maggie and Stephen Snyder, and their son Killian live on Whistler Farms where they raise pigs in the their forests and poultry in their pastures. Maggie and Stephen are both retired from the USMC. They and Killian are avid outdoorsy types, enjoying hunting and fishing. Maggie also raises and trains Gordon Setters, and the photo features one of her prizewinning dogs.

Mike and Susan Clark:

Mike and Susan Clark own and operate Green Acres Farm in Mascot, TN. The farm produces forage for over 70,000 pounds of grass-finished beef at any given time. This is another of several Century Family Farms in our network of producers; Susan's family has owned the land since 1803, and the Clarks took over the operation in 2006. Their commitment to regenerative grazing practices has dramatically increased their soil's carbon capture and raised its organic matter. Thanks to this success, they are recognized leaders in soil health, and frequently a field school site for training other farmers. They are also recipients of their soil district's Soil Conservationist of the Year award. In the photo, Tristian, their herdsman, looks after a contented herd of South Pol mammas.
